The God of Surprises

If we learn anything at all from the book of Acts, it's that God is the God of surprises.

  • Faithful Ananias, told to go the the man who has been arresting Christians, to tell him about Jesus?  Surprise!  (I can just see him saying "You want me to WHAT?"
  • Saul goes from arresting Christians for execution to Apostle to the Gentiles?  Surprise!
  • Peter, told to ignore the "unclean" rules?  Surprise!

What surprises would God have for the Church today, if we would listen?

3:00 a.m. Thoughts

When we get to Heaven, will knowledge be infused into us?
I think it would be more fun to be able to ask questions.  "Hey, Jesus, got a minute? . . ."

Are We Really Strangers?

When you're turning to go out
and he's turning to come in
and you motion for him to go ahead
and he motions, no, you go, I'm good --
Are you really strangers?

When your heart is broken
and your life is broken
and your heart hurts every time you breathe
and, in a small town where you know everyone,
a woman you've never seen before
(or since) stops you in the frozen food aisle
in the local grocery store
and says, Can I pray for you?
And she does
and on a busy Saturday morning, no one else comes
into that aisle while the two of you are praying --
Are you really strangers?

When traffic is at a standstill,
and the pickup next to you has his window open
and he's blasting one of your favorite country songs
and you both turn and smile at each other
and give each other a thumbs-up
Are you really strangers?
